Steal Away The Night An Ozzy Osbourne Day-By-Day

by Martin Popoff
Released: 2014
Rudy was honored to have over 30 of his photos used in this epic book. Steal Away the Night: An Ozzy Osbourne Day-by-Day aims to add to the shockingly slight representation of all things Oz-man in book form with celebrated metal expert Martin Popoff plotting the crazy 30-plus-year run of rock's most adorable madman, day by day, milestone after milestone, the hirings, the firings, the rehabs and relapses, the bats, the doves, Zakk Wylde, and most seriously, the tragic death of Randy Rhoads in a fly-by prank gone wrong. Adding to the considerable textual substance of the tome (which promises to leave no Oz-related scrap of trivia unearthed) is a running oral history of the band, making use of Popoff's extensive interview material with Ozzy plus various band members and producers (along with press quotes), augmented by an explosion of garish imagery culled from the band's record sleeves, live shows, ads, and memorabilia. Indeed, Ozzy's shock-rock visuals are some of the flashiest in the biz, making each page of Steal Away the Night: An Ozzy Osbourne Day-by-Day explode with heavy metal power
DISCovery PODCAST
Rudy Childs is a photographer, documentarian and soon to be author. He’s written a book called Riff Raff and Rock And Roll [working title]. It is an absolute killer book, one that deserves to be published and turned into a movie. Rudy talks about the many concerts he saw from a long list of amazing bands, some at their genesis, like Van Halen, Cheap Trick, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers just to name a few.
He shares amazing tales of hitchhiking across the US to see shows while encountering wild characters. His epic stories talks about parking lot fights, drinking, drugs and women have you wonder how the hell we'd get away with the same things today. It's a trippy time capsule, an homage to an America that was incredibly fun and not under the surveillance of all-encompassing cameras and cell phones. His dream of becoming a notable rock photographer is continually challenged as he spirals into the abyss of addiction. The outdoor parties are outrageous, as is getting into a screaming match with Sharon Osbourne, pissing off Joe Walsh in the middle of a concert, and witnessing AC/DC’s Bon Scott getting pissed off at concert security. When Rudy is left a bloodied mess as he's hauled out of an Ace Frehley show, he decides he's had enough, changes his life and becomes an award-winning documentary filmmaker. Trust me, you will love this interview. Rudy is a great guy, an amazing story teller and has photos, video and audiotape to back it all up.

Tension: 25 Years Underground

Released: 2011
Tension: 25 Years Underground chronicles the band's rise in popularity and how, even through several line-up changes, they stuck to their guns and refused to bow to the demands of record companies. The film leaves you wondering what would have happened to Tension if they had 'sold out' and made it big, and indeed the common notion of success itself. Marty Friedman and Tommy Gattis cut their teeth in this band, and the film opens a time capsule to reveal vintage video footage and unbridled interviews on subjects like how the PMRC helped and hindered 80s heavy metal music, and how 'hair bands' of the time commercialized the public perception of the genre.

Novel written by Mike Bernard with Rudy Childs Cape Cod Coliseum photos Sex, Drugs, Rock ‘n’ Roll! It’s a cliché, but for the group of teenagers at the heart of CONCERT DATES, it’s real life. Cape Cod in the summer of '76, and the salty air vibrates with the sound of roaring rock concerts. Brian and Til make a promise: an annual pilgrimage to a show, a symbol of their enduring connection and a bittersweet reminder of their youth. But life's beautiful complications will test the strength of their bonds as they search for the true meaning of family and real love.
In January 1985 the heavy metal band Forcer was anxious to sign a record contract, after turning down a deal three months prior. The year begins by changing lead singers, musical style and image, which was a shock to their fan base. They were ultimately well received by playing enormous outdoor parties in Maryland that drew the attention of local law enforcement. As Forcer's popularity grew, an old school bus is purchased from a church for $400, and they venture to record new, harder-edged music at Studio 4 in Philadelphia. Deciding the only way to get signed is to relocate to the West Coast, they leave for the Metal Mecca of the 80s-Hollywood, CA. However, the bus dies in West Virginia. It is abandoned and they commandeer a three-passenger rental box truck to drive the six of them the rest of the way to Hollywood. As they barely escape being arrested in Tennessee, and manage an infestation of genital crabs along the way, three band members are forced to ride in the back of the truck with the equipment. In spite of the challenges on the road they make it to California to record new material at Pasha Studios and find out how challenging it is to get signed. Competing for a new fan base, paying to play in clubs and poor living conditions bring the band to a breaking point as they retreat back to the East Coast, leaving one of the members behind. Having to regroup, the band moves on to play some gigs in Massachusetts, where the equipment truck gets stolen in a quiet town south of Boston. While in pursuit on foot, their manager gets run over by the truck, yet nearly catches the perpetrator. With vintage footage from the 80s, this is the tale of a young, determined and scandalous band seeking fame while making kick-ass music.
Mid-80s Maryland rock and rollers host an out-of-control weekend field party in Potomac, MD. Videotaped using a stolen CBS News microphone, the memories are still vivid, and funny, twenty five years later.
